The Master of Science in Business Analytics degree at Stuart School of Business combines an immersion in analytics—from statistics and modeling, to database management, to predictive analytics and data visualization—with development of your decision-making skills and expertise in strategic business management.

Program Overview

In the M.S. in Business Analytics program, you can build high-level analytical skills and knowledge that enable you to analyze and interpret complex business data, communicate insights clearly, and excel in a variety of professional roles that inform and lead managerial decision-making.

Our downtown Chicago location and connections in the city’s global business center offers students access to companies that employ data scientists, business analysts, and market research analysts, with opportunities for internships and networking.

Courses at Stuart typically include a strong hands-on learning component, connecting theory with practice through case studies, in-class problem sets and exercises, and group projects. Flexibility for working professionals includes in-person courses offered primarily on evenings and Saturdays. Typical degree completion times are two years (six semesters) part-time or 12–16 months full-time.

Stuart’s M.S.in Business Analytics program takes students’ analytical and business expertise to new levels. Here are three of the key courses required for the degree.

MAX 522—Predictive Analytics 
Companies capture and analyze large amounts of data about every aspect of their operations. In MAX 522 you’ll learn how artificial intelligence and machine-learning techniques can be used to analyze data, with an emphasis on prediction. Whether it is predicting customer behavior or determining the optimal maintenance schedule to keep the production line humming, predictive analytics is the key to transforming data into actionable business information.

MAX 507—Visual Analytics—Data Analytics and Visualization
Through this course, you will learn to understand, explore, and communicate with data, using design principles and leading tools such as Tableau and Excel. Topics include data cleaning, prepping and analysis, dashboard creation, interactive visualization techniques, and the art of crafting data-driven narratives. Students are well-prepared to navigate the data-centric business landscape, making meaningful contributions to their organizations.

BUS 510—Strategic Management
Developing great strategies and executing them flawlessly are keys to driving your organization’s rise to the top in a competitive global business environment, as well as fueling your own career success. Our Strategic Management course focuses on the rigorous business process that combines analysis, strategy, and performance that helps you develop and execute highly effective strategies. The course includes a strong experiential learning component.

The degree requires a minimum of 30 credit hours (10 courses) as detailed below. All courses are three credit hours each.

  • Professional statement (statement of purpose)
  • English proficiency exam, if required
