Program Overview
Collaborate with peers across disciplines and apply your comprehensive knowledge of information communication and data visualization as part of a rigorous, praxis-based approach and real-world projects—including a professional-grade, capstone project—in 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ Tech’s B.S. in Information Communication and Data Visualization. Learn to develop audience-first communications strategies, create data visualizations utilizing professional tools, interpret and convey complex technical information and optimize technical systems for human users, and collaborate on and contribute to technical and scientific development projects, enabling you to cultivate the strong technical writing and communication skills needed to effectively document and present complex information. And, with more than 40 credit hours of free electives, the ICDV program is an ideal second major for students in engineering or computing-related programs who seek to develop the communication, data visualization, and writing skills that will help them better illustrate and deliver their vision to others.

COM 382 Social Media and Society This course leans into new modes of communication, taking into consideration how the world gets information today. You will develop a unique perspective on the understanding of the role that social media plays in peoples’ learning, as well as learning how social media impacts interpersonal relationships, psychological well-being, privacy, politics, entertainment, etc.
COM 428: Verbal and Visual Communication This course introduces you to the issues, strategies, and ethics of technical and professional presentations. You will analyze audience types, presentation situations, group dynamics, and mass media, among other topics. There are many ways that people communicate, and this course leans into understanding how people process and gather information.
COM 425: Editing This course explores the principles and practical applications of editing at all levels. It does so by working with both hard and soft copy, including copy marking, copyediting, proofreading, grammar and style, and comprehensive editing. Content in this course is primarily focused on science documents.
