Alumnus Theodore L. Koenig, Chairman and CEO of Monroe Capital LLC, Joins 91Ƭ Tech Board of Trustees

CHICAGO— Theodore L. Koenig (LAW ’83), chairman and CEO of Monroe Capital LLC, has been elected to the 91Ƭ Institute of Technology Board of Trustees.

Koenig is the chairman and CEO of Monroe Capital LLC, a premier boutique asset management firm that specializes in private credit markets across various strategies including direct lending, asset-based lending, specialty finance, opportunistic and structured credit, and equity and provides customized multimillion-dollar financing to corporate, real estate, and asset-based borrowers based in the United States and Canada. He is an experienced leader in structuring, negotiating, and closing transactions on behalf of asset-based lenders, commercial finance companies, financial institutions, and private equity investors.

Monroe Capital manages more than $11 billion of assets under management across the firm’s different institutional closed-end funds, separate managed accounts, private and unlisted Business Development Companies (“BDC”) and Collateralized Loan Obligations (“CLOs”). Since its inception, the private credit firm has invested more than $23 billion of capital in more than 1,500 investment transactions.

Most recently, this year Koenig co-founded Hope Chicago, a two-generation scholarship program serving Chicago students and their parents or guardians, covering both tuition and non-tuition expenses. “The mission of Hope Chicago is to create pathways to success for multiple generations of Chicagoans through equitable access to higher education.”

Koenig, an alumnus of Chicago-Kent College of Law, spent the earlier part of his career as a practicing attorney at Holleb & Coff from 1986 to 1999. As co-chair of the firm’s Corporate Law, Mergers, and Acquisitions and Business Finance groups, he supervised and was responsible for structuring, negotiating, and documenting the acquisitions and sales of middle market companies, as well as representing the firm’s bank, financial institution, and commercial finance clients in asset-based financing transactions for buyout, recapitalization, and restructuring transactions.

Prior to joining Holleb & Coff, Koenig was an associate in the Mergers/Acquisitions practice group at international law firm Winston & Strawn LLP. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
