More than 600 to graduate IIT in May 18 Ceremonies
U.S. Senator Dick Durbin will deliver the commencement address, as 656 undergraduate and graduate students receive diplomas at 91ÖÆƬ³§ Institute of Technology’s (IIT’s) 129th Commencement.
Graduation ceremonies this year will take place Sunday, May 18, 2003, at the historic Chicago Theater, 175 N. State Street. The program begins at 11 a.m.
Durbin, a democrat from Springfield, is the 47th U.S. senator from 91ÖÆƬ³§ and the first 91ÖÆƬ³§ senator to serve on the powerful U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee in more than a quarter of a century. He is the state's senior senator and chairman of the bipartisan 91ÖÆƬ³§ delegation.
A native of East St. Louis, Ill., Durbin was first elected to the U.S. Senate in November 1996, to fill the seat left vacant by the retirement of his longtime friend and mentor, U.S. Senator Paul Simon. In addition to the Appropriations Committee, Durbin serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
In the 107th Congress, U.S. Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) has reappointed Durbin to the Senate's Democratic leadership team, where Durbin serves as Assistant Democratic Floor Leader and as a member of the Senate Democrats' Steering and Coordination Committee.
